The Brandenburg Wilderness Foundation owns about 13600 hectar of wilderness nature reserves on four former military training grounds in North-East Germany. On the means of the German national strategy on biodiversity, these areas are dedicated to wilderness development. In the research project PYROPHOB, one of the study sites are the fire-disturbed forests in the wilderness nature reserve near the town Jüterbog. They represent valuable reference sites for post-fire vegetation succession without human interference and natural forest adaption in the context of climate-change. Additionally, a scientific photomonitoring is applied to document the seasonal succession dynamics in the vegetation at all study sites.
