The Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg is the only technical university in the state of Brandenburg with currently around 7,000 students. Within the sub-project “Soil Properties and Soil Fauna” of the Pyrophob collaborative research project, several institutions from Faculty 2 “Environment and Natural Sciences” are involved. In the context of soil science, the two chairs of Soil Protection and Recultivation as well as Geopedology and Landscape Development work together with the BTU Research Center for Landscape Development and Mining Landscapes (FZLB) to analyze matter turnover and fluxes in and from burned forest topsoils. In addition, the Department of Ecology examines the influence of forest fires on biodiversity with regard to soil fauna and pays special attention to the regulating effect of selected predatory arthropods.
